Tortola, BVI – February 19, 2024. Tanssi, an appchain infrastructure protocol, is teaming up with Lastic, a marketplace for buying and selling blockspace built on Polkadot Coretime. This collaboration aims to integrate Lastic's trading capabilities with Tanssi's infrastructure, enabling automatic block production through Tanssi's collator network immediately after blockspace purchase. This integration is designed to simplify and streamline the development process, enhancing efficiency in block and transaction creation within the Polkadot ecosystem.
“There’s a natural connection between Tanssi’s quick-and-easy deployment of chains and Lastic’s marketplace for securing and connecting those chains to Polkadot and beyond. Lastic and Tanssi working together creates a synergy that benefits builders and the entire community by making Polkadot easier to experiment with and build unstoppable applications.” - Phil Lucsok, Co-founder of Lastic
Lastic: Revolutionizing the Blockspace Market
Lastic is pioneering the concept of a true blockspace marketplace, utilizing Polkadot's Coretime model to deliver unmatched flexibility and a user-centric interface for the hassle-free purchasing and trading of blockspace, whether on-demand or in bulk. Lastic is dedicated to delivering tailored blockspace solutions that meet the unique requirements of various projects and applications. They address the challenges of current blockspace acquisition and utilization processes in Polkadot, offering a robust solution for dynamic scaling as blockspace capacity requirements grow.
Embracing innovative pricing models inspired by the energy markets, Lastic is setting a new standard for transparency and efficiency in the marketplace. This visionary approach not only streamlines the trading of blockspace but also empowers users to dynamically scale their operations, meeting their unique needs and adapting to workload fluctuations with ease.
The Future of Blockspace in Web3
Polkadot is undergoing a transformation from its existing parachain slot auction system to a new, innovative model known as "agile coretime”, and on-demand blockspace. This model is designed to facilitate secure and adaptable blockspace trading, a development led by Parity, the Polkadot Fellowship, and the Web3 Foundation (W3F). Their goal is to make decentralized and secure blockspace widely accessible and tradable, although they do not intend to create a marketplace for blockspace trading themselves.
To fill this need, Lastic is emerging as a key player by setting up a unique marketplace for blockspace trading targeted at the web3 and crypto communities. Effective utilization of blockspace becomes paramount as developers, projects, or appchains optimize their operations. Here, the role of Tanssi becomes crucial. Tanssi is tasked with selecting transactions and forming blocks using the coretime bought through Lastic's marketplace, in a streamlined process enabled by ContainerChains (appchains connected to Tanssi). This mechanism ensures the purchased blockspace is used efficiently, thereby improving operations within the Polkadot ecosystem.
Tanssi's integration simplifies block production by automating it through its shared and decentralized sequencer set, once blockspace is acquired on Lastic. Without Tanssi's infrastructure, developers buying blockspace would face the cumbersome task of setting up their own block producers, complicating the development process. This collaboration between Lastic and Tanssi streamlines block production, significantly improving both efficiency, developer costs and the developer experience in the web3 ecosystem.
The Strategic Role of Tanssi in Blockspace Optimization
Lastic and Tanssi's collaboration brings a significant evolution to web3, merging marketplace innovation with appchain infrastructure expertise. This is how Tanssi’s appchain infrastructure protocol supports Lastic:
Automated execution environment for purchased core time: This automation ensures that developers and projects can efficiently use their allocated blockspace without manual intervention or having to bootstrap their own sequencer set, facilitating seamless and effective execution of blockchain workloads within the specified time frame they have purchased.
Flexible workload management with EVM or Substrate ContainerChains: Offers developers the choice of EVM or Substrate ContainerChains for managing blockchain workloads, blending the familiarity of EVM with the customization potential of Substrate. This flexibility enhances application performance and efficiency within Lastic.
Innovative blockspace representation through NFTs: Lastic introduces coretime represented as NFTs, facilitating their trade on a predictable and accessible platform. This system not only aims to lower financial barriers and streamline operations for projects within the Polkadot ecosystem but also enhances blockspace management flexibility. Tanssi supports this initiative by automating block production following a coretime purchase, indirectly contributing to the efficiency of the process. Furthermore, these NFTs enable a secondary market for blockspace, fully compatible with Tanssi’s infrastructure, aligning with the evolving needs of the blockchain community.
“We often see a lot of the same concepts repeatedly being built in web3, which is why I find Lastic particularly exciting. It represents a next-generation project that will shift how developers access sovereign, secure, decentralized, and composable blockspace on demand, and it will bring forth a new design space for developers to interact with. The collaboration with Lastic is very complementary to what we’re building at Tanssi, and I’m looking forward to working closer with Phil and his team to see what new use cases arise using our technologies,” says Francisco Agosti, Tanssi co-founder.

456bd I clicked around that entertainment site people mention just to get a feel for how it’s laid out, not really to dive into the actual stuff. First thing I noticed is it doesn’t feel cluttered—everything’s spaced out in these neat blocks so you can tell what belongs where without thinking too hard. I’m also a sucker for pages where you can scan fast, and the table-style info is set up in straight columns, so your eyes don’t zigzag all over the place. The menu being easy to spot helps too, like you’re not constantly backtracking to find your way. Overall it just feels kind of “obvious” in a good way, especially with those clean category blocks and column-based tables.
